minimize holiday party damage
Struggling with holiday temptation and subsequent weight gain?Building upon this post I wrote last year, here is your #1 goal.STAY IN CONTROL."ha. ha. Jess..." Not realistic? It can be if you approach it the right way. Here's how:1) Control what you can. Not going to your family party until dinner time? Then eat as best you can for breakfast and lunch. Stick to your routine, and give your body the nutrition it needs so it's not freaking out when you get to the party asking for "SOMETHING. ANYTHING. THE ENTIRE PLATE OF APPS."Drink lots of water during the day, too. With lemons if you can.2) Before you eat anything - ask yourself if you are even hungry. If you aren't - Exhibit A, stay away from the food table :). Exhibit B - keep your hands busy with a cocktail. Exhibit C - have a few nibbles of your fav foods and move on. Don't fill up a plate of shit you aren't hungry for. You'll just end up feeling bloated the rest of the night.Actually, truly hungry? By all means - eat. Look at your options and decide what you can eat to MAKE YOUR BODY HAPPY. Your body is telling you it's hungry because it needs nutrients (not because it desperately wants to taste 7 of the baked mac and cheese phyllo cups).Look for veggies, protein, healthy fats. Examples? Veggie tray, guacamole, shrimp cocktail, chicken skewers, hummus. Fill up on the better options and THEN go back to the spread to try a few tastes of the foods that just LOOK bangin' and you have to have 'em.Tastes. Key word. Try the 16-layer cheese dip and move on. So many times, I think I'm going to LOVE something and end up not loving it so much, but then I feel bad about wasting food, and ugh. I eat it. Start small, my friends. You can always go back if it's THAT good.3) Ding Ding >> Don't tell yourself something is off-limits. The minute you say you can't have something is the minute you will not be able to stop. thinking. about. it.And then? You'll inevitably get tipsy and have, like, 10x the amount you would have had if you just allowed yourself to try it in the first place. It will happen. So just have a taste and get it over with.4) Speaking of getting tipsy...have a glass of water in between each cocktail. No one even needs to know. Wine glass empty? Fill it with water. Drink the water down. Fill it with wine. All of that can happen in less than two minutes. If you are really quick - try two glasses of water!Keeping water in the mix will keep your body happy and hydrated -- less likely to feel intense gotta eat something now cravings and less likely to feel terrible the next day. Less tipsy lady = less likely to binge lady.Have specific questions or want my help practicing some...balance? Shoot me an email.Enjoy. Merry everything.
