5 Reasons To Justify Your Love For Avocados
Short story - I didn’t eat a single avocado until sophomore year of college. I was absolutely terrified of guacamole until one night when I had a couple drinks and someone offered me … chips and guac (better than drugs, right?).
Ever since then - avocados have been a staple in my diet. Even before they were trendy. I’m old, y’all. Here’s why you should get on board, if you haven’t already.
1. HEALTH BENEFITS
Avocados have tremendous health benefits - aside from being extremely delicious. For every serving of avocado, you get Vitamin K, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin B5 & B6, Folate and Potassium. Avocados come packed with all of these as well as a nice source of healthy fats and fiber.
2. FAV SALAD DRESSING
I LOVE SIMPLICITY. I have 3 kids. I need simple! Sometimes, I use avocado as a salad dressing, pretty much by itself. Here’s what you do - take a half (or more) of an avocado and massage it into your greens with a little bit of salt, pepper, garlic and lemon. SO nice and easy, takes out the extra oils you would typically find in a salad dressing and adds in an element that will help to keep you fuller for longer.
3. GUILT-FREE DESSERT
I have made some incredible avocado-based desserts in the past and my favorite has to be avocado / dark chocolate truffles OR GOOD Fest friend, Phoebe Lapine’s avocado chocolate brownies (linked here)! The avocado chocolate truffles I’ve made in the past just use avocado, plus melted dark chocolate & semi sweet chocolate + cacao powder + coconut sugar + sea salt. Mix all of those together, roll into little truffles and freeze! They are a perfect little dessert bite for any time of the day. And they will stay good for weeks in the freezer.
4. EASY SNACKS FOR KIDS
Avocado is a great source of healthy fat and fiber (as mentioned above) and therefore getting your kids to have a little avocado with their snacks or meals is so rewarding for their health. Plus, then they don’t end up terrified of avocados like me until college - HA!
I love to mash up some avocado and have the girls eat it with chips, veggies, a spoon… whatever they want! It was a great transition food for us while the kids were moving from milk to food…and now my toddlers like to see that they are eating the same thing as mommy.
5. HELPS ABSORB NUTRIENTS
There are many foods that are assisted by fat in order to be absorbed properly and used by your body. These are called “fat-soluble” nutrients - such as Vitamins A, D, E and K! Therefore, adding avocado into your meal can help you absorb the other nutrients in your meal to feel like you’ve had a COMPLETE and FULL meal at the end of it.
In closing - THANK YOU AVOCADOS!
What is your favorite way to eat them?!
