Cool Father's Day at Home Ideas

Alright moms, we had our day. Now it might be time to start planning for Father’s Day. This year, regardless of your area’s restrictions, I wanted to share some non-traditional ways to celebrate while staying in the comfort of our own home.

Let me be totally clear and honest, though: John wants nothing but to golf. And now that he is able to, that is what he will be doing. HAHA.

Father’s Day Field Day

This is for the outdoor people. Think back to elementary school where you got to play outside all day and compete against your friends. I’m so competitive, so maybe I am the only one remembering these days, ha! So you can organize some relay races, minute-to-win-it style games and make a schedule for the day/competition. Winner gets to do whatever they want the rest of the day!

Home Video

One thing I’ve been seeing a lot of recently are more home movies. I have to say I love looking back at all the little videos I’ve taken of the kids over the years. Who am I kidding- I do this every night when they go to sleep. You could piece a movie together with your kids for dad - maybe have them imitating mom and dad in the clip. I don’t know about you, but when they pick up on the things we say and try to pretend they are us - it cracks me up. I also realize I have a lot of rules :-P If you don’t like this approach - you could also use iMovie to edit together some clips and photos of the kids over the years with pops.

Invent a Recipe

Carmen makes up recipes and ideas for food in her head...every day. She comes up with these elaborate ideas for Elsa cakes, unicorn cookies and her daily snack tray (usually color coordinated). PJ is so chill that she will go with anything, so she is always down to help mix together Carmen’s vision.

I thought it could be a cool idea to let C come up with John’s food for the day. I’m not sure if we will definitely go with this - ha - but I wanted to share it anyway in case you have some creative kids as well.  If you can supervise them, this could be a fun project for them and potentially something hilarious to document. I’d also definitely have some back up options ready.

Old School Video Games

Fun fact: John and I probably started dating because of the Tony Hawk video game. We used to play it every day during our Freshman year. Two years later, we started dating. OBVIOUSLY I IMPRESSED HIM. lol. So I think my kids are too young for this right now, but if you have older kids - it might be a cool idea to get an old school video game system that the kids can play with dad.

When all else fails - golf, good food, beer and time alone is probably an easy way to go! :)

How are you planning on spending Father’s Day this year? Let me know some of your unique ideas in the comments!
