Postpartum Tea Blends
Postpartum teas…yes, no, maybe? Let’s get into it!
Postpartum tea blends can get expensive and I find that more often than not, they focus more on the nursing aspect of postpartum. But let’s be honest - we need the nourishment too!
So I started looking into this for a doula client and have decided the best thing to do is buy herbs in bulk and make your own blend! It’s much less expensive and not terribly hard or inconvenient. It’s definitely doable, but I recommend getting everything ready before your due date so you are not juggling this with a newborn.
The following herbs are meant to create “nourishing mother” tea blends. I would mix these together into a larger mason jar and then create single cups as I go, or infuse a larger amount for a longer period of time to extract more benefits and keep it cold until ready to enjoy.
Nourishing Blend
Blend: Nettle, Red Raspberry, Alfalfa, Oatstraw
Benefit: Tons of vitamins and minerals! Plus, it has nutritional benefits for a healthy mom.
Calming Blend
Blend: Lemon Balm, Chamomile
Benefit: Nourishes the nervous system
Astringency Blend
Blend: Red Raspberry, Nettle, Lady’s Mantle
Benefit: Helps to tighten tissues after birth (a la the uterus)
Mother Tea Blend
Blend: Nettle, Red Raspberry, Alfalfa, Oatstraw, Rose Buds for flavor
Calm Tea Blend
Blend: Lemon Balm, Chamomile, Rose Petals, Spearmint
I would buy these on a reputable bulk herbs site, like mountainroseherbs.com. If you’re a mama, did you enjoy any pregnancy or postpartum teas? Let me know down in the comments!
