Steps are better than Goals for the New Year
Goals don’t happen overnight.
Everyone makes you feel like you need to do a full reset for the New Year. Heck, I used to SELL a New Year cleanse! LOL And, it’s cool and maybe you DO want to make a change in your life.
But, here’s the thing, you need to take steps in order to reach your goals. And I feel like often the steps are overshadowed by the big, scary goals.
In 2019, I created some incredible things that I am endlessly proud of, rebranded and refocused my business found new ways to connect with moms and had my first son, Graham. We MOVED out of the city and into the suburbs, and we begin 2020 in our new house.
My goal for 2020? More time with my kids and less work.
What I do from here is take the big goals and break them down into the HOW steps. You might need to have several layers, and at the end, you’ll see clearly why you should only pick 1 or 2 goals. LOL TOO MANY STEPS!
So for me - the biggest step to accomplish the above goal is — MORE EFFICIENCY.
This then breaks down into (1) TIME BLOCKING, (2) ORGANIZATION, (3) SETTING BOUNDARIES ON MY TIME AND ENERGY.
What I do from HERE, is ensure that everything I say “yes” to is aligned with the above.
Sitting down to do work? Am I time blocking?
Saying yes to a job or social activity? Am I setting boundaries? Is it a hell yes?
Have a ton of thoughts or to-dos? Am I organizing these somewhere?
I have made so many steps towards each and every one of my goals throughout the last few years in order to make them easier to accomplish each year. Again - Goals don’t happen overnight.
Don’t let the New Year scare you into creating unrealistic goals with unrealistic timelines. Make your goals into STEPS and see your accomplishments come a little easier.
Each week or month, look at your steps and see if they are working for you. You might need to revise them a bit. Email me if you need any help!
