Healers Need Healers

I had the idea to write this blog post for a while now. In my work of coaching and mentoring, I have found that sometimes it is assumed I have my shit totally together.

Not always the case! I mean, I have a decent handle on things at this point just from 6 years of health coaching in Philly (and beyond), experimentation, research, and working on it.

I’d say for many people in this space of healing, we all have our own teams of healers to help.

Whether you are in this space or hiring someone in this space, I hope this provides some clarity and I’d love your thoughts!

Healers tend to:

1. Put others’ needs before their own

2. Recognize others need healing but forget their own needs

3. Hide true feelings/emotions/struggles to portray a “perfect image”

4. Absorb others’ energy through the healing process (positive or negative!)

This, can cause:

1. Low energy

2. Lack of self care

3. Being out of tune with their own emotions

4. Not listening to their bodies (when it needs rest, when it is too stressed, etc.…)

And none of that is good for the work that needs to get done with others, right?

I have found a few ways to ensure I am taking care of myself before I show up for others. It’s so important for me to ensure I am able to give the right amount of space and energy to someone else.

Co-healers can help to support fellow healers and restore their energy. For example, acupuncturists could visit aroma therapists. Coaches could visit acupuncturists. Astrologists could visit coaches.

Rather than always doing the “healing”, healers can allow themselves the opportunity to receive healing from other sources. Without this self-care, healers could end up physically, mentally, and spiritually drained.

It is critical to both my work and my wellbeing that I allow myself to be cared for in the same way I care for others. Taking care of myself is key to my success in healing and caring for others.

In addition to the below, I find that meeting regularly (well, without schedule-stress) with other entrepreneurs, healers, and friends in-person is great to keep momentum, clear your energy, and have someone to discuss ideas with.

Anyway, here are MY fav healers right now!

Reiki: Reiki is a form of energy healing based on the idea that a life force energy flows through everyone’s body. Maintaining a balance of this energy within the body and preventing blockages is key to reducing and preventing stress, low energy, and sickness. I don’t get reiki regularly, but a few times a year - and I have just completed my Reiki One training this month so I can better utilize this practice. I really love Alyson Wernly (@alysonvictoriawernly) in the suburbs and Regan Maria (@reganmaria) in the city if you are looking to give this a try.

Acupuncture: Acupuncture is a form of medicine in which hair thin needles are injected at certain pressure points in the body. Acupuncture works by clearing blockages or flow of energy. This practice has been used to treat chronic pain and to maintain overall health and wellbeing from hormones to mood. I see Jason at Summit Acupuncture in the city and I use this mostly for anxiety and stress relief (@phillyacu).

Astrology and Intuitives: Maybe a little out there, but I have done birth chart readings, chakra readings and overall intuitive discussions in order to receive some clarity and direction on my life. I know this shit sounds WILD but if you find the right people, you can also find insane accuracy. I want to be clear that no one has told me exactly what is going to happen in my life - I don’t treat it in a “psychic” way - but instead it’s a nice method of getting some motivation to move forward with projects or plans. IE the birth chart reading showed me that I was in the middle of a huge program reformation that started 2 weeks before my 35th birthday - yep, right on. This is when I started working with a business coach to refine my mama-program and offering. I believe that these discussions simply pick up on the energy you are putting forth. If someone is intuitive, they can pick up on stagnant energy, flowing energy, super-powerful energy. It’s really great to talk through ideas with someone who can also pick up on your energy - because it will either give you some advice to move forward, or some reaffirming love to move.  I love Danielle Mercurio (@daniellemercurio) or Regan Maria (@reganmaria) if you are looking for someone local in Philadelphia, also Nikki Novo (@nikkinovo).

Chiropractor: I just feel better when I am not only mentally ALIGNED but physically ALIGNED too! At one point, I was addicted to the crack-crack-crack of my neck and back, but since I have met Casey D’Arcy, she has changed my mind for the better! She will X-Ray you before she does ANY work on you (smart, and why doesn’t this normally happen?!) and will also do a scan to see where there is heat and cold in the body. Her movements are very subtle and over time she will help you put everything back where it’s supposed to be. Luminous Chiropractic (@theluminouschiro) is local to Philly.

What do you think? Are you using any healers right now that you love and I missed?
