In the nine months of pregnancy, we have to figure out how to make our current wardrobe work for us, alongside finding new pieces that fit the baby bump! Fashion might be on the back burner for a mom-to-be, and that’s OK! We all need a good pair of sweatpants, too, if you ask me.

Adding more stress onto our plate isn’t ideal, so let’s ease some of it! Check out these bump-friendly clothing stores that will make any mama feel her absolute best. Then, scroll down to find some essential pregnancy fashion tips that you won’t want to miss!

My favorite places to shop:

Pregnancy Fashion Tips

Dresses all day long

Dresses are a lifesaver on warmer days - easy to slip on and very usable for most of your pregnancy time since they can grow with you. Plus, dresses make for a super-easy decision when getting ready.

Cotton fabrics

Breathability is quite literally everything when pregnant. Cotton is a great choice to control the inevitable pregnancy sweats - especially if you’re pregnant in the summer months.

Find clothes that can be worn during and after pregnancy

On average, the US alone produces 17 million TONS of textile waste each year. That has a huuuuuuge impact on the environment. Finding clothes that can be worn before, during, and after pregnancy can help cut down on that negative environmental impact, while also expanding your wardrobe. Truthfully, most of my “maternity” clothes are actually not “maternity” clothes and are things that I just buy a bit bigger and can wear after!

Basics are perfect for layering

Pregnant or not, basics are key to a good wardrobe. When you are pregnant, though, they’re key to have on hand. Being able to toss different layers on and off is a great way to expand your wardrobe options. One of my favorite things to do is leggings with a maternity tank - and then we can layer this with a short sleeved tee, long sleeved tee, blazer, sweater, or sweatshirt. These base layer basics set you up for TONS of wardrobe flexibility.

Jumpsuits bring a unique variation to style

If a dress isn’t your style, that’s ok! Jumpsuits can be a great alternative to the typical flowy dress. Maternity jumpsuits have more than enough stretch, look cute for any occasion, AND make you feel like you’re wearing a big comfy adult onesie. If that doesn't sell you on one, I don’t know what will!

Slip-on shoes!!!

Swollen feet? I’ve been there, mama. It’s time to hunt for some lightweight, breathable, and comfortable slip-on shoes. They’ve helped tons of moms who can seem to fit into their old shoes during pregnancy. Another great aspect is that they’re so much easier to get on and off, even when it feels like you’ll never see your toes again!

Thrift Thrift THRIFT!

As we talked about before, clothing waste is a big factor that affects our environment. Repurposing old clothes and thrifting for new ones can definitely help. I love finding unique pieces on sites like Poshmark that have only been worn a handful of times before. I THEN recommend selling them back on these sites when you are done!
