My Postpartum Bra Strategy

With this being my 4th time around the postpartum block, I feel like I’ve become a nursing bra connoisseur! I’ve seen (what feels like) almost every bra option out there: the good, the bad, and the uncomfy. With every child, I’ve done things a little differently. This time around, I really like the strategy I’ve come up with and it’s been a great experience so far!

My postpartum bra strategy has one goal: maximum comfort. In the early days postpartum when I am super engorged, milk is coming in, and I am extremely uncomfortable, comfy clothes are my best friend. I like the less supportive bras because there is more space and room for everything to happen, especially at night. I’m talking super-simple, super-basic, super-unsupportive. The less, the better!

Then, during the day, I’ll reach for something with a bit more padding that’s supportive enough to hold everything together for when I am moving around a little more.

Keep reading for the current bras in my rotation!

Colsie

FOR NIGHT and LABOR.

The Women’s Reversible Seamless Bralette by Colsie from Target has been my number one this time around. It can be worn both ways (genius) with the V in the front or back depending on what’s most comfortable. I ALSO wore this one in labor because it’s suuuuper stretchy, easy to pull down for nursing, and was only $7. Yes, only $7!! I’ve seen other nursing bras go for $60+, and this regular bralette has a lot of them beat. I ended up buying THREE of these to have in my rotation and I use this at NIGHT. Grab a size that’s larger than you typically would so you have a little extra room.

Calvin Klein

FOR NIGHT and LABOR.

Very similar to the Colsie Bralette, the Calvin Klein Unlined Bralette is one I’ve found myself buying over and over again for 6 years and 4 births now. I stocked up on a new set of these because they're easy to pull down, don’t have padding, and are fairly affordable compared to other options. I also sized up in this bralette for more space to move.

Kindred Bravely

FOR DAY.

For the daytime when you want a little more support and padding, Kindred Bravely is what I reach for. There are no wires, but the padding is nice to hold you in while you’re moving around and want to feel a little more supported! I have an issue where no matter how I move, it stimulates a let-down, and this prevents that a little bit which is nice. I assume that is because everything is more secure and supported. The clip-down is also nice for a quick nursing without the hassle. And I should mention that I love their sports bra style! Again, I grabbed a larger size in this bra too. This one is a bit more pricey, since it has more bells and whistles, but I ended up doing the 3-pack to save a little.

Remember that not every option works for every person, so these options may not work for you (and that’s ok!) I had to try on a few to find what really works for me. If my current favorite options aren’t your cup of tea, here are a few more great bras to try!
